Running out of toner mid-job is avoidable arithmetic. If you know roughly how many pages are left and your daily volume, you can pinpoint when the cartridge dies, and back off the supplier's lead time to know the last safe day to order.
How it works
Days of supply left is pages remaining divided by your daily print rate. The run-out date is that many days from today; the reorder-by date subtracts your supplier's lead time so the replacement arrives before you're dry.

Common questions
I don't know pages remaining, what do I enter?
Multiply the percent the printer reports as left by the cartridge's rated yield. 20% left on a 6,000-page cartridge is about 1,200 pages.
